Getting to Know the World Wide Web

What are good practice manners to follow when using email?

Our text lists several, so I will list a couple that I feel are important.
  • Check your email regularly.  Once people know you have email, they will start using it and expect you to do the same.
  • Scan unknown attachments with your virus protection software before opening them.
  • Never send anything that you would not want anyone other than the intended recipient to read.
  • Use all capital letters sparingly, only when what you are saying is extremely important.  When an email message written in all capital letters is read, it appears as though the sender is "SHOUTING!(Legacy 2008)"

  1. I agree that the points you highlighted are important, especially the last two. Most people probably don't give much thought to the fact that other people could read their emails or that emails can be accidentally sent to the wrong person, therefore we should not include too much extra information in emails that we don't want others to be able to read!

  2. These are all excellent points. I have a FB friend that always types their status in capital letters and it drives me crazy! They are shouting at everybody that is reading their post.

  3. Those are really good points that you highlighted. It is amazing to me how so many people will email like they are sending a text message. I think that emails should be set up like a letter and people should take into consideration how their writing reflects upon them. Great post!

  4. Haha, I chose this same question. I thought the ALL CAPS suggestion was pretty funny. It is definitely understandable that this can be viewed as shouting. Plus it is annoying when people do it ALL THE TIME. :) I just annoyed myself.

  5. If you don't want your mom to read it - don't post it!

  6. The lesson: here is "Don't put anything in writing that you don't want the whole world to see. Not only is email not private it is permanent. Emails are basically indestructible, like cockroaches
